José Saramago is a Portuguese writer and Nobel Prize laureate in Literature. He was born on November 16, 1922, in Lisbon, Portugal, and passed away on June 18, 2010, in Lanzarote, Spain.

Saramago grew up in a poor peasant family. He completed his education in Lisbon and worked in various jobs. He began writing while working at a publishing house and from 1976 onwards, he devoted himself entirely to his books.

In 1995, he gained wide recognition and achieved great success with his novel "Blindness". The author's narrative style is noteworthy and he has a unique writing style. He writes dialogues in the form of prose and uses only periods and commas as punctuation marks. His narrative language is witty, simple, and fluid.

José Saramago was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998. In addition to his novels, he also wrote essays, poetry books, and plays. Saramago was an atheist writer and his works often explore themes such as deceptive reality and humanity.

The famous writer is remembered as an unforgettable author due to his literary legacy and compelling storytelling. Despite his passing at the age of 87, his works continue to attract readers' interest.
